Piazza, Covello, 50 Dresses, Incroyables, Rachel Marie Hurst, Mondo and Geoffrey Mac presented spring lines at the April 11, 2013 show.
Three of us went to the shows. It was a fun night and we had a lot of favorites, from the attendees of the event, to the designs on stage. We captured our favorite moments here.
Fashion and hair creators collide this Thursday and Saturday as Mondo Guerra joins Geoffrey Mac and a host of hard-working local designers for Denver’s spring fashion weekend.
303 Magazine has advertised a relaunch of its print edition to coincide with the fashion shows, scheduled for April 11 and 13. Editor-In-Chief Jennifer McGlincy said 303 Magazine content will expand to culture, music, lifestyle, food & booze, health & sports, and sex & dating. “I am beyond excited that this issue is featuring our first ever celebrity cover, AnnaSophia Robb,” said McGlincy in a 303 interview.

Mondo has continued to capture the imagination of the fashion world with his innovative style and bold designs. Mondo’s capsule collection for Neiman Marcus and exclusive eyewear collection for SEE will be available later in 2013.
New York based designer Geoffrey Mac has developed a distinct and unmistakable aesthetic of clothing and jewelry His designs feature an unexpected but timeless mash-up of futurism and vintage eras.
On Sunday the Denver Design Incubator presents locally designed and produced clothing for fashion and football fans alike.
Stop by for hot chocolate and a taste of local, affordable goods.
On Sunday, Oct. 28, DDI will showcase clothing and accessories designed and made by Colorado creatives from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Industrial sewing machines and a micro-production studio will be transformed into a temporary shop to showcase local designers.
DDI, 2040 Clay St., is a resource center for fashion design that aims to assist Colorado artists in the design and production of their clothing lines.

Local Fashion Designer Fallene Wells Presents Fall Line at
Modern Nouveau: Fall Friperie
On Friday, August 24 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Denver fashion designer Fallene Wells will launch her fall line Modern Nouveau at the event Modern Nouveau: Fall Friperie at Walker Fine Art Gallery, 300 W. 11th Avenue.
In addition to featuring Wells’ Parisian- and 1930s-inspired collection of interchangeable pieces, the event will highlight local Denver storeowners and designers with the pop-up store Swank and presence of the I Heart Denver store. Swank will feature local vendors La Samara Studios, Kitty Mae Millinery, Ink Jewelry and Ru Fabricates just to name a few.
“My collection, Modern Nouveau, is about creating fun vintage inspired layered pieces that can be mixed and matched to create endless outfits. I want to give the consumer more options to express their personal style through mixed prints and separates,” said Wells. “I’ve always been in love with the stylish disheveled look of the newsboy from the 30s, my starting inspiration for this collection. I’m very happy with the outcome: it presents many possibilities, it’s easy to wear and has a punch of personality.”
Wells’ designs will be available for purchase and order at the event. Guests will enjoy music by DJ Matthew Brown while experiencing the fashion display and shopping local designs. About Fallene Wells
Fallene Wells is a Denver-based fashion designer, stylist and makeup artist. Since 2007, Wells has been producing fashion shows, titled Forever Darling, to help local designers get the recognition they deserve in the Denver community. With the help of funding received through Kickstarter, Wells is producing her first collection in Denver and will begin selling her clothing online and in local boutiques in fall 2014. Wells explains her artistic philosophy: “I believe it’s important to have fun with what you’re doing and live life to the fullest with passion. The Denver Art Museum is the spectacular site of the only viewing of the Yves Saint Laurent collection outside of Paris this year! If a trip to Denver is in your plans between now and July 8th, be sure to get tickets and see this wonderful exhibit of fashion as wearable art!
Passionate patience is an understatement to describe my anticipation of seeing the beautiful black gown with the huge pink bow seen on all of the YSL at the DAM (Denver Art Museum) marketing pieces. As I meandered through the astonishing collections in awe, my inner smile kept waiting to flash! Seeing it in the incredible “The Last Ball” display (see below), I was both excited and bummed because this delightful gown was saved for last and I had reached the end of extravaganza. “Le Coeur” was the exquisite finale. “Le Coeur” is a huge jeweled heart that Yves would give the model of his favorite piece in a collection to wear on the runway.
Thank goodness there was a bench to sit at the base of the Grand Staircase where the “The Last Ball” display features some of the most gorgeous dresses of this retrospective. While each garment and its accessories are extraordinary,
my love of creating couture gowns definitely drew me to this treasured spectacle. And as a couture designer, you can imagine how much I wanted to go up those stairs and take in every little detail of each gown!
Instead, I was content to sit for a while in awe after viewing “Le Smoking” or the Tuxedo collection. Two walls are filled with YSL’s variations of tuxedos for women and I could envision wearing at least 5 of them! Only question is where?!!! The staging took my breath away and made me think I should volunteer to help repack this room so I can admire the handwork up close.
My vision was drawn upwards to the red dress at the top straight ahead. When I realized that I had created a draped skirt almost exactly the same for a client’s prom dress 3 years ago, there was a huge Wow! moment for me. Without
previously ever seeing this red gown, it was strangely breathtaking that the design was so similar. The woman sitting next to me asked which gown was my favorite, my answer was “most of them as well as some of the tuxedo versions behind us; however, my favorite is my own couture creation downstairs in the Fashion Studio.”

The museum staff set up an incredible Fashion Studio for the public to interact with Denver designers every weekend through September 3rd, who are happy to share their favorite parts of the fashion industry. Check the museum website for the schedule of happenings at www.YSLDenver.com. The educational opportunities also include a chance to sketch a design, touch a variety of fabrics and see vintage sewing machines, drape a garment, try on wardrobe pieces and walk the runway.
I am honored to have been asked to create a couture gown for display within the studio so that visitors can see how one pattern becomes three different designs. The other 2 designers are Denver Design Incubator board members, Carol Engel Enright and Kim Roussell. Carol draped the pattern and we collectively chose to replicate the color pink and a high neckline with cut in shoulders.

Street Style Nov. 10th 9am – 3pm
Street Style festivities include fashion shows on Glenarm Place from Forever 21, Express, Banana Republic and Gap with runway models from Wilhelmina, a performance by Ballet Nuevo Colorado, tunes from local DJs, hair designs and tips by stylists from Matthew Morris’ salon and the makeup team from Bare Escentuals.
Tami Door, president of the Downtown Denver Partnership, Paul Washington, chief of Denver’s economic development and Mark Sidell, president of Gart Properties will receive Street Style makeovers from local stylists.
The event also includes a “Cut & Sew Challenge” contest sponsored by the Denver Art Museum and hosted by “Project Runway” season 9 contestant Fallene Wells.
The Denver Art Museum will host a collection from the late French couturier Yves Saint Laurent. As a challenge, four local designers – Melissa May, Trisha Hoke, Heidi Busk and Rachel Marie Hurst will compete to create an outfit inspired by YSL. The designers will work on Glenarm Place so the crowd can watch the process. Judges include Donald Peterson, the Honorary Consul of Sweden and Brittney Peterson local costume designer and Consular Agent to the Royal Consul of Sweden, Darrin Alfred, Design Curator from the Denver Art Museum, and Beth Bradley, Associate Editor, Sew News.
Murals focusing on Denver-based cultural themes designed by Like Minded productions for Art Institute of Colorado, Sandra Fetting for Visit Denver and Joel Duvall Feldt for the Downtown Denver Partnership will be showcased throughout the event.
“We pulled in our network of community and cultural partners to develop programming for Street Style. Samuel Schimek, curator and owner of the I HEART Denver store at Denver Pavilions was instrumental in that process,” added Manning.

“Cupcakes and Couture” First Fundraiser for Denver Design Incubator
(Denver, CO) — DVLP Clothing will host Cupcakes and Couture as a kick-off fundraiser and fashion event for the newly established Denver Design Incubator (DDI). DDI will be an in-residence program for new emerging apparel and accessory designers to develop successful lines of clothing, reach profitable markets, and launch as established apparel and accessory manufacturers.
Cupcakes and Couture will feature Colorado fashion designers showing couture garments in a Parisian style fashion show paired with delicious cupcake bakeries. The after-hours gathering will be held Friday, December 10th at the Jet Hotel, 1812 Wazee in LoDo from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The ticket price of $20.00 includes cocktail, cupcakes and entertainment with 100% of the proceeds going to the incubator. A silent auction of fashion items will also be held to raise funds.
